Empire State English offers English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for university students and adults, both those who live in the Capital District as well as visitors to the area.
Founded in 2012, Empire State English is licensed by the New York State Education Department and accredited by The Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA).
Empire State English received approval in 2016 from the U.S. government’s Student Exchange and Visitor Program to provide ESL to international visitors with an F-1 visa.
English programs at Empire State English can be as short as one month or as long as 18 months. This will prepare international students for education at a U.S. college or university or give them language skills to pursue personal or professional interests. Admission and placement tests are ongoing throughout the year.
At Empire State English we help non-native English speakers achieve their personal, professional and academic goals in English through quality teaching in a welcoming school environment. Our students are actively engaged learners and we inspire them to embrace English in the classroom and out in the community. Our instructors are facilitators, guiding students to understand their own learning styles and become life-long learners.
Intensive English (ESL)
Empire State English offers Intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for university students and older adults, both those who live locally as well as visitors to the area. Our IELP involves at least 20 hours per week of instruction.
Our part-time program for local residents offers classes during the day or the evening, from as little as one hour per week to as many as eighteen hours per week. Find a class that fits your schedule.
Students may obtain conditional admission through a local partner college before beginning at Empire State English. With 25+ colleges and universities in the region, there are many options for international students after finishing an ESL program.
